Disparagement

What is pain that I should give it any
Thought? or time of day that I should at all
Be put out by the wasting of such free
Gifts? or love that I should be in a pall
For the loss of one so sweet as this? that
I should weep to think of suffering stroke's
That take life from my own womanly hopes?
Should I, like a beautifully wrought vat
Of water, be shattered by some bitter
Thing that enters into the cistern? drink
Wholesome water? Should I not in a wink
Choke first before I allow the sitter
Named life to give me such things? No. I
Who have lost, cannot have life, and must die.
