Regret

In times of merriment we would forget
The things that at one time did so upset
Our person; lest we be filled with regret.
So when I think of the times now long gone
I do find amongst happy thoughts the wrongs
I've committed, the sorrows that I've dealt
To unsuspecting victims who have felt
My sting of betrayal; a heinous welt.
Yet caught by the current that drags unseen
Thoughts, that whirlpool of what has been, I
Cannot help but see dry land nearby, dream
That perhaps reconcilement betwixt our
Friendship is possible, if only still;
Fettered by hope, and unrelenting will.
